During winter, when the coldness and the white wasteland conquer us, any brightly colored flower is a joy for the soul. Instead of rich perished bouquet, we buy a pot with a flower as a gift or receive such beauty for some holiday or celebration.

Flower shops tempt us with their unnatural diversity of colors: cineraria, poinsettia, azalea, gardenia, cyclamen, chrysanthemum, hydrangea, potted bulb flowers (hyacinths, daffodils, crocuses, and tulips), miniature roses, begonias, orchids, primroses, etc. Very often, the disillusion comes quickly - flowers, buds and even leaves fall off.

There are different reasons for that. Most often, we forget that these plants are kind of vibrant bouquets with short-term effect. There is no chance to get back their beauty (at least until the next year). Other species suffer from the home environment. The most common problem is the dry air, the heat and the poor light. Cinerarium decorates our house for a few weeks and dies. In order to have a plant for more than a month, we should buy a plant with many flowers and buds.

We should put it near some window, where the light will be much and the temperature is not so high. We should also water it but not much. In order to increase the humidity of the air, we should place the pot in a vessel with pebbles on the bottom (with water around them). Cineraria are a favorite of the aphids. Such are the demands of the Christmas star. It needs a little more heat.

Cyclamate is also very loved plant. It is a spectacular flower that requires special care. It does not tolerate heat, that’s why you should find a cooler place for it. The shops often offer small, bloom, evergreen gardenias. They are not expensive and are a perfect present especially for women. Gardenia is capricious for home conditions. Another similar type is azalea. The most appropriate temperature for it is about 10-15 degrees. It should be kept away from radiators and other heaters. The plant should not be put under the direct light of the sun, but its place should be lit. It should repeatedly be sprayed and watered with soft water. If you want something to flourish in your home during winter, try the chrysanthemums, anthurium, calceolaria and then you will appreciate the irreplaceable begonias and the room violet.

All the plants need more care during winter. You should read a lot about every kind in order to know what to do with it. Some of the plants need more water, others do not, some need more light, others do not, some need more heat and others do not. But if you want to have a real nature in your home, you should do everything necessary to keep them alive.

If you have already taken care of your garden and you need to take care of the inside of your home during the winter then you probably need some firewood. The word for firewood in Danish is Om brænde and if you really need some, visit this resourceful Danish website.
